5 Most Popular Species Of Rodents And Ways To Eradicate Them

Feb 20, 2020

Rodents love living and associating with humans. However, they become a nuisance to people. These rodents are nocturnal, and they move close to people to look for warmth, especially during winter. They are known to not have good vision, but their sense of touch, smell, and taste are high. They eat something softer than their enamel. They like climbing, burrowing, and jumping from one place to another regardless of where the place is. This is why the majority of people do not like them. They, therefore, tend to look for ways to control these rodents. Controlling them may help a lot but only with the proper means.

Below are five rodents that tend to disturb the peace of humans and what type of commercial pest control can be used to eliminate them.

Roof Rat:

These are, at times, called black rats and are small-bodied. They have long tails than the whole of their body with the head combined. They love living in areas that are enclosed or elevated, such as walls, ceilings, cabinets, attics, among others. It feeds on pet food, nuts, and ivy.

Norway Rat:

This one is bigger than the roof rat but has smaller eyes and ears. It tends to live underground in places like the sewers, building basements, creek banks, waterfronts, among other places. It feeds on pet food, garbage, meat scraps, cereals, and vegetables.

House Rat:

This has a small body, a thin body, and the tail is longer than the body and the head combined. It is greyish. It likes to live in a house where there is comfort. It eats many types of foods but mostly feeds on grains and seeds.

Squirrels:

This has a long and bushy tail. They have large dark eyes, small ears, and are brown or black. They have large teeth. Their sharp claws help them climb on top of trees quickly. They feed on corn grains. They hide them on the trees or bury them to feed on them later on. They like living in the trees and farms, especially those that grow corn.

Marmot:

This is a part of the squirrel family that loves living in the mountainous regions. They live in burrows and enjoy staying together as a colony. They have rounded ears and have strong digging claws. They have brown fur, which has a bit of white.

Rodents can be a nuisance, how then can people control rodents? Below are some of the things you can do to make sure that they are not eliminated completely;

Eliminate Food And Water:

If they lack anything to feed on, then they will leave. You can also repair any leaking drainages so that they do not get food or water.

Use A Trap:

Placing traps near places you know they visit will help. This is one of the most trusted commercial pest control methods people know.

Eliminate Shelter:

Ensure that you destroy all the shelters they have made. Also, trim the vegetation and trees so that they do not have a place to stay.

If rodents have invaded your privacy, do not sit back and wait for them to cause harm. They can be a nuisance to people and also cause harm. The best way is to control them before they further do harmful things to you. Many people hate rodents. This is why they are forever looking for commercial pest control for their homes. Look for the best way of controlling them and you will be sure to stay a happy life. You can opt for rodent control in Melbourne where they will be eradicated fully and the best means used for eradication.
